As a driven and focused individual I am able to focus on different tasks that I am given at the same time, whilst ensuring I can consistently maintain a high standard of learning and working. I aim to be efficient with my work in order to help others whilst also making time for others and communicating in both a working and relaxed environment. It is essential to have a work-life balance and I believe I have the skills to maintain both an efficient working environment as well as being friendly and welcoming to my peers.
As a teaching assistant I act as an intermediary between the teacher and the students. I have to use a balance of my youth and my experience to ensure that the different interactions between the two are understood by all and that the following of these instructions is seamless. I have to watch the class at times when the teacher is busy giving me time to make use of my independence by keeping the students focused and entertained whilst still teaching them valuable lessons about their lives. At all times, I have to maintain a level of stable confidence to prevent students from taking advantage of having a teaching assistant in the room as well when asserting myself when necessary. When dealing with behavioural issues I have to keep calm and composed as I want to give fair judgements between different student interactions regardless of their reputation or manners. There is no key skill to working with students but rather a culmination of many different actions that can help you to succeed in this role and I am confident that I can balance these skills as well as others that I may need in future.
As a part of my Duke of Edinburgh bronze award I had a key role in guiding the team, using the map, to our destination Although, this was my initial role I had to adapt the role to compensate for the large group that we had I lead the group to an incorrect turn and I took us to the right places until we got to the right place Leadership was a skill that I learnt about on this journey and I understood the responsibility that it came with I had to accept the mistake I made as well as realising the impacts of my actions, I was responsible for this group and so I had to ensure that I was extremely focused Furthermore, I understood the skill of leadership in that the leader takes the most responsibility but they reap the most reward and so I knew that I was working for myself but more importantly for our team
Additionally, my new found interest in boxing has taught me the importance of discipline in both interesting and less interesting activities The efforts to remain fit for the sparring sessions with my friends were sometimes lazy and at times non-existent but when avoiding a task for so long you begin to see the benefits that you are missing out on This re-enforced the idea of discipline to me as I wanted to improve my boxing and so I knew I had to maintain a consistent level of effort
Furthermore, as a school-councillor in highschool I became aware of the importance of being pro-active despite your surroundings Attending fortnightly meetings and constantly failing to do much good as a collective I realised that being a member of the council and holding a title was nothing if I did not utilise the opportunities available to me I did not re-apply for the role next year and I instead decided to focus on other tasks I have learnt that it is important to prioritise and take action even when others may not
