Role Overview

As a Senior Structural Engineer based at the Head Office, I work closely with the highest-level plan approval team, overseeing the structural integrity and compliance of maritime and offshore assets. I am responsible for plan approval of oil tankers and offshore barges, including FPSOs and FSOs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design reviews of structural equipment and hull drawings in accordance with BV rules and guidelines and international standards.
  • Conduct independent structural analyses for global and local scantling verification, covering yielding, buckling, and fatigue.
  • Provide technical supervision and expert guidance throughout the plan approval process.
  • Deliver training sessions and technical support to clients and Bureau Veritas surveyors.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality, compliant engineering solutions.


Project Highlights

  • FPSO Grandmorgu
    Class approval and independent structural analyses for a newly constructed FPSO. Scope included strength and fatigue assessments of mooring porches, riser balcony, and topsides integration with the hull.
  • FSO Permata Dulang
    Conversion of a trading oil tanker into an FSO. Performed structural analysis of three cargo holds to verify compliance with Bureau Veritas Rules and guidelines.
  • FSO Ledang
    Life Extension Study (RLE) for the FSO Ledang. Conducted fatigue analysis of hull structures and connection details in way of appurtenances, including crane pedestal and metering skid supports.

    Life extension study of a 172 m Oil Storage Offshore Service Barge owned by MISC Berhad. Conducted 2D and 3D (3 cargo hold FEA) analyses for strength and fatigue assessment.

    Life extension study of a 229 m Oil Storage Offshore Service Barge owned by PETRONAS. Performed 2D and 3D (3 cargo hold FEA) analyses for strength and fatigue assessment.

    Life extension study of a 294 m Oil Storage Offshore Service Barge owned by MISC Berhad. Conducted 2D and 3D (3 cargo hold FEA) analyses for strength and fatigue assessment.

    FEED study for the conversion of a 330 m VLCC oil tanker into an FSO. Performed 3 cargo hold FEA using Veristar Hull for yielding and buckling assessment.

    Conversion of a 249 m Aframax oil tanker into an FSO for the Sao Vang Field, Vietnam. Conducted 2D analysis for strength and fatigue assessment.

    Structural review of main deck plating and deck transverse web supports in way of a 6000 MT topside module.

    Structural review of main deck structures in way of appurtenances such as crane pedestal, topside module, and metering skid.
  • RMN Sea Base Jack-Up
    Full design review of accommodation rigs converted into ESSCOM sea base. Focused on main hull structure, legs, and supporting mat. Used ISYMOST and NSO for 3D modeling, strength analysis, and fatigue assessment.
