During my time onboard i have played a vital role in paint repairs, splicing, whipping, watchkeeping, vessel upkeep, HLO, reccys and guest excursions.

1st Mate / Deckhand

S/Y Halekai 39M Pendennis Hoek design
12.2023 - 12.2024

Halekai (Private/Charter), 1 year.

As First Mate, my duties consisted of the upkeep of the vessel, including teak maintenance and mould removal, tenders and toys (Williams jet, surfing, kiting, seabobs, e-foils), product inventory, LSA safety equipment checks, passage planning, regatta and boss charter preparation. During an extensive five-year Lloyds survey, I managed a deck maintenance team and dealt with contractors while we got a fresh paint job and sprayed deck lockers, scuppers, bilges, tanks and engine-room parts. Removal of all stainless fittings on the paintwork and teak for servicing and reinstallation. We pulled the rig and dismantled it for a spray job and refitted it with fine tuning. Being a Hoek design, there was plenty of varnish upkeep and repairs. We worked with programs such as Sortly and Pinpoint Works for job lists and inventories. Halekai is a private charter program with extensive sailing and a strict water sports program, focusing on the America's Cup and cruising Spain.

profile

Having worked onboard sail and motor yachts for 8 consecutive years i can confidently say i have developed exceptional organizational skills and hold the ability to maintain a vessel to highest of standards while ensuring the safety of all crew onboard. I enjoy problem solving and being faced with new challenges while carrying them out with a calm and professional demeanor. I keep active by learning from and also teaching fellow crewmembers. Having worked on smaller vessels I'm looking to commit myself to a larger Yacht deck team that can help me grow within my career and engage in personal development. I believe that a permanent/rotational position would suit this best as i would like to work towards my OOW 3000.
